Fascinating Fashion From the 1930s

I am recently drawn to the fashion in the 30s, may be because I am reading too many romance fictions with settings in that era.  I'm fascinated by all the balls and dressy parties attended by the young ladies of the upper classes.  I just think the 30s is an era that is so much more romantic than the present, I can just feel the romance by looking at the clothes and photographs of that period, so intriguing:

The dresses are so grand and glorious, they are breathtaking. The above photo is from the 1931 Famous Beauties Ball.  One thing that stays the same in history is, fabulous clothes are always worn by people who have a fabulous life.  The lady who wears the lowest cut in the photo (on the far upper right) turns out to be a very accomplished writer.  From now on, I am going more to be more careful in picking the clothes I wear, for dressing my best will at least give me one thing in common with those who live a glorious life.

In Search For Azzedine Alaia's 2013 Fall Collection

Azzedine Alaia is one of the rarest designers' whose passion in fashion always fills my eyes with tears whenever I look at the magically beautiful pieces he created.

Like most geniuses in any art, he designs from his heart and soul and he isn't about chasing the media attention like many other designers.  So he doesn't make a collection just to show for fashion weeks.  Azzedine Alaia seems to have his own fashion weeks and he shows his collection whenever he's done making it and whenever he feels like showing it.  Since he doesn't participate in fashion weeks, I usually search on my own every season,  hoping to see may be someone famous is wearing his latest exclusive design.  Then I find Rhianna wearing this breathtaking red gown of his:

Then a further search for his 2013 collection, I found the following dress that is very wearable for  both work and cocktail parties.  I don't know when this dress was designed but Azzedine Alaia's creations are so perfectly stylish that, seasons and timeline are all irrelevant.

Azzedine Alaia's clothes are said to make the women feel the embrace of men when they wear them.  I have no doubt about it even I haven't had the fortune to wear one of Azzedine's creations. Even though my search this season doesn't find me any 2013 Fall Collection that he had done,  I find that he is going to have an exhibition in Paris  to show the master pieces he had created throughout his years as a fashion designer.  While I can't afford to go to Paris any time soon, watching the following video about his exhibition is the next best thing as to actually attending the exhibit.

Starting a New Shoe Line Is A Struggle Even for Established and Successful Designer

I am a huge fan of Franceso Russo for many years.  He had designed so many gorgeous shoes while he was working at YSL and Sergio Rossi. I think his designs are not only fashion but arts that deserve a place in a museum.

His break from the big brands and huge marketing machines to start his own label really takes tremendous courage.  For one thing, I have realized he hasn't got his own website yet and his 2014 solo collection hasn't received as much PR and media exposure like his former collections did at YSL and Sergio Rossi.  It just shows that big money and big marketing really make a big difference.

Nevertheless, Franceso is an exceptionally talented designer and artist, I just hope he will overcome the lack of access to the resources and support in running a shoe label and continue to create marvelous shoes. BCBG is on top of my list whenever I am looking for an affordable and beautifully designed dress that has both good craftsmanship and good fit.  Little did I know that the man who has been  making these fabulous dresses for the last 25 years is Max Azria, a 64 year old fashion entrepreneur.  I am amazed at how his creativity keeps renewing and refreshing for so many years.   I admire how he creates beautiful fashion.  Unfortunately, Mr. Azria's creativity and influence in my beloved fashion brand may diminish in the near future as his lender, who finances $475 million of $685 million debt that BCBG borrowed, seeks exchange of debt for equity of the company.  I just hope that BCBG's future design isn't going to be dictated by this new potential investor and become something totally different and has little to none resemblance to Mr. Azria's work that I have grown to love so much....

Where Online Can I Buy this 2013 Style of DKNY Jeans?

I saw this pair of jeans on DKNY's 2013 ads in the March 2013 issue of Glamour magazine.  I went to DKNY's website and was unable to purchase it there.  Only the picture of the ads was there and there was no such jeans for me to buy.  It was so disappointing.  I searched in the internet and couldn't find other websites selling this style of jeans either.  I think the DKNY website has a terrible shopping mechanism.
